Top bureaucrats to coach Latehar youth for civil services

RANCHI: Youths of Maoist-hit Latehar district, where even schools do not function properly, have got a mentor in form of deputy commissioner (DC) Aradhna Patnayak and superintendent of police (SP) G Kranti Kumar who have taken up the responsibility to guide the UPSC aspirants from region to find a place in country's most prestigious job.

While Patnayak is an engineer, the police superintendent has post-graduation degree in agriculture.

Officials in DC's office said that the DC has decided to start an informal training class for youths of the region, which will be organized every Sunday at district collectorate, where she will personally guide the aspirants.

Patnayak, who had cracked civil services with Mathematics and Geography, said that the idea came to her mind when some aspirants approached her for guidance. "While guiding them I realized that if the youths are properly guided then they may crack civil services and other prestigious competitive examination," said Patnayak who herself is a qualified engineers.

She said that some other IAS and IPS officers posted in the district have also promised to join her endeavour so that bright students aspiring to achieve some goal in life get right and timely guidance. "I had even prepared for MBA entrance and have good flair aptitude test and general knowledge. If someone is aspiring for banking service or state civil service can also come and attend the guidance class," she added.

District's SP, who has also coaching the youths to crack civil services, said that he generally guides the aspirants in Agriculture, Botany and general studies. "The boys are bright but don't have access to good teachers as they are financially not very sound. When they approached for guidance I accepted their request and am happy that I am helping the youth to achieve their dreams," said the SP.

The two officers are hopeful of good result from the candidates if not in civil service than other examination in the future.

Most of the aspirants are happy with the decision of two senior officers of the district to guide them personally for the top competitive examination as they would have never got an insight to crack civil services.

Vikas Kumar, one of the aspirants taking guidance from the DC, said that he always wanted to prepare for civil services but always wondered how to start the preparation. "When I came to know that the DC is willing to guide us personally so that we are able to achieve our dream I approached her. I hope that most of us will be able to crack the examination in future," said Kumar.

Another civil services aspirant Prashant Kumar, said that no one ever thought that a senior officer will be ready to take out time from busy schedule to help local youths. "Now when they have come forward to guide us we will put our best and make them proud," he added.
