Free mock-interviews for the civil service aspirants on 02-05-2015

On the basis of the Result of the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2014 held by the Union Public Service Commission(UPSC) from 14th to 20th December, 2014, a total of 3,308 candidates have qualified for the Personality Test for selection to the Indian administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service and other Central Services (Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’). A total of 9, 44, 926 candidates had applied for the examination but only about 4.5 lakh candidates appeared for the preliminary examination and out of that only 3308 candidates could make it for Personality Test.

Indian Telugu Civil Servants Association (ITCSA), an informal group of Telugu All India Service and Central Service Officers, is conducting free mock-interviews for the civil service aspirants on 02-05-2015(Saturday). All the Mains qualified aspirants are requested to get their names registered, by sending their DAF forms to itcsa2006@gmail.com. Civil Servants from various services have consented to attend this programme and the names include Vijay Datta IAS, Bharati IAS,Sadhu Narasimha Reddy IRS, Balaram IRS, L.Suresh IRS, Sudheer IRPS etc. Eminent education psychologist Shri.C.N. Reddy will co-ordinate the programme and interested qualified aspirants can contact him on Ph.9000803050 for registration. To participate, aspirants must get their names registered and should submit 3 copies of DAF form at the venue. Time-slots will be allotted on a first-come-first-served basis.

Level of Urbanisation in India

Among all the States and Union territories, the National Capital Territory of Delhi and the Union territory of Chandigarh are most urbanized with 97.5 percent and 97.25 percent urban population respectively, followed by Daman and Diu (75.2 percent) and Puducherry (68.3 percent).

Among States, Goa is now the most urbanised State with 62.2 percent urban population, a significant increase since 2001 when urban population of Goa was 49.8%. Another significant instance of rapid urbanisation is that of Kerala, its urban population is now 47.7 per cent, while a decade ago it was just 25.9 percent. Among the North-Eastern States, Mizoram is most urbanised with 51.5 per cent urban population, though in terms of absolute contribution to total urban population in the country, Mizoram’s contribution is just 0.1 percent. Similarly Sikkim, which was just 11.0 urbanised a decade ago became almost 25 percent urbanised in 2011. Among major states, Tamil Nadu continues to be the most urbanized state with 48.4 percent of the population living in urban areas followed now by Kerala (47.7 per cent) upstaging Maharashtra (45.2 percent).

The proportion of urban population continues to be the lowest in Himachal Pradesh with 10.0 per cent followed by Bihar with 11.3 percent, Assam (14.1 percent) and Orissa (16.7 percent).

In terms of absolute number of persons living in urban areas, Maharashtra continues to lead with 50.8 million persons which comprises 13.5 percent of the total urban population of the country. Uttar Pradesh accounts for about 44.4 million, followed by Tamil Nadu at 34.9 million.

Civil Service aspirants request for changes in CSAT

Karnataka Govt to sponsor more candidates from weaker sections for private UPSC coaching

The number of poor and meritorious candidates from the weaker sections in the Karnataka State qualifying for the Government-sponsored pre-examination training for Union Public Service Commission’s (UPSC) civil services exams in reputed private coaching institutes across the country is likely to go up during 2015-16.

Poor candidates from backward classes, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes (SC and ST) and minorities planning to appear for the civil services exams will not only be provided training in reputed coaching centres in New Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Belagavi for a duration ranging from seven to nine months, but will also be entitled for a monthly stipend.

Principal Secretary to Department of Backward Classes Welfare Shalini Rajneesh said the entrance test to select suitable candidates from the backward classes is likely to be held in May. “We are planning to double the number of candidates to undergo pre-examination coaching for civil services this year. About 250 candidates were selected for training last year. This year, we are targeting 500,” she said.

Similiarly, Ms Archana, Director of Pre-Examination Training, Social Welfare Department, said the number of SC and ST candidates undergoing civil services coaching is expected to go up this year.

Director, Directorate of Minorities, Mr Akram Pasha told The Hindu that about 80 candidates from minority communities were selected for coaching last year out of the 1,200, who appeared for the entrance test. The Directorate is seeking to add more numbers this year.

All the three departments – Backward Classes Welfare, Social Welfare Department and Directorate of Minorities – are shortly expected to invite online applications. Exams are likely to be conducted by the Centralised Admission Cell of the Education Department.
